Rooibos means reddish bush in Afrikaner, because its stems have reddish reflections. As for its leaves, they take on a reddish-orange hue when oxidized.
The rooibos, from its Latin name Aspalathus linearis, comes from a bush endemic to the sandy plateau of the Cederberg Mountains north of Cape Town in South Africa.
It has a robust flavor with spicy notes. It is a good caffeine-free alternative for black tea lovers in particular.
